Lila Abu-Lughod in Cairo - A Settler Colonialism of Her Own: Imagining Palestine's Alternatives

Lila Abu-Lughod, CPS faculty associate and Professor of Anthropology and Women's and Gender Studies at Columbia, will be delivering the Edward Said Memorial Lecture at The American University of Cairo this week.

To honor the memory of the late Edward Said, Professor Abu-Lughod will give a talk titled "A Settler Colonialism of Her Own: Imagining Palestine's Alternatives," that will reflect on Palestine's current impasses and imaginatively explore future possibilities through the experiences of unexpected places and peoples. Building on emerging debates on settler colonialism and indigenous politics, she will ask how such comparisons may illuminate the challenges we face today and crystallize for us what we might — or might not — want for Palestine and Palestinians.
